Hey everyone, I apologize for the delay with a new blog update, but here I am with some exciting info!
In today's blog, I will be discussing the base object for any Pokemon Card: Energy Cards! So far, in all 64 Pokemon expansions, there are 11 total types of Basic Energy cards you can get. Those cards are:
GRASS ENERGY
FIRE ENERGY
WATER ENERGY
LIGHTING ENERGY
FIGHTING ENERGY
PSYCHIC ENERGY
DARK ENERGY
METAL ENERGY
DRAGON ENERGY
FAIRY ENERGY
COLORLESS ENERGY
Do note that the Dragon Energy and Colorless Energy I pictured above ARE NOT basic energy cards. I will explain in a bit.
The first energy cards to be used way back in Base Set when the TCG was first starting out were Grass, Fire, Water, Lighting, Fighting, Psychic and Colorless. In the Neo sets, Dark and Metal were introduced. In BW Dragon Vault and Dragon's Exalted, Dragon type was introduced and in the XY Base Set, Fairy type was introduced.
Energy cards are the core of any Pokemon battle. Each Pokemon has a type and each Pokemon can't use an attack without energy cards. Some Pokemon even have dual types but more so in the older sets such as EX Team Aqua vs. Team Magma.
There are two types of energy cards:
BASIC ENERGY
SPECIAL ENERGY
Basic energy cards are the core. They have no effect other than providing a single energy. Special energy cards usually have some form of effect to them such as this Double Dragon Energy. To explain, the card in detail, the Double Dragon Energy card can only be used on Dragon type Pokemon. It provides two of any energy at a time but only works on Dragon types. If you were to use it on say, a water type, you would immediately have to discard it. There are tons of different Special Energy cards so collect as many as you can and see what you can use in your deck!
What Pokemon go with what energy? Good question. I'll go over the types of Pokemon and what energy they are associated with.
GRASS ENERGY
Grass energy covers Grass and Bug. In the older sets up until the Diamond and Pearl expansion, Poison type Pokemon such as this Muk, were associated with Grass energy.
FIRE ENERGY
Fire energy covers only Fire Type Pokemon.
WATER ENERGY
Water Energy covers Water and Ice type Pokemon.
LIGHTING ENERGY
Lighting Energy covers only Electric Type Pokemon.
FIGHTING ENERGY
Fighting energy covers Fighting, Rock and Ground Type Pokemon.
PSYCHIC ENERGY
Psychic energy covers Psychic, Ghost and Poison Type Pokemon. Remember, older sets had Poison Type associated with Grass.
DARK ENERGY
Dark energy covers only Dark Type Pokemon.
METAL ENERGY
Metal energy only covers Steel Type Pokemon.
DRAGON ENERGY
Dragon energy only covers Dragon Type Pokemon. Before BW Dragon Vault and Dragon's Exalted, Dragon Types were associated with Colorless energy.
FAIRY ENERGY
Fairy energy only covers Fairy Type Pokemon.
COLORLESS ENERGY
Colorless energy covers Normal and Flying Type Pokemon. Before BW Dragon Vault and Dragon's Exalted, Dragon Type Pokemon were associated with Colorless energy.
